ban ugg boots!

a woman was hit by a train and killed in Colchester when her ugg boot became trapped in a cattle grid while trying to cross railway tracks. so, besides the obvious--ugg boots are a hiddeously ugly--they also cause fatal accidents. burn them!

Whoa, wait. The boyfriend is charged with manslaughter, after she ignored the gates and crossed the tracks anyway! The article doesn't mention he was there at the scene. Did he buy the Uggs for her!?

i have no idea--i think there is another article explaining the situation more. i'll see if i can track it down. i think he's being charged because he was encouraging her to cross the tracks with the gate down? it's not really explained well, is it. i guess i was more interested in pointing out the role the ugg boots played in her death. and yeah, if he bought them he should be charged! as should everyone who wears them. hehe.

i guess the story keeps changing. here's the latest account and more explanation as to why the boyfriend was charged: http://www.thisislondon.co.uk/news/article-23474589-details/Boyfriend+charged+over+death+of+woman+killed+by+train+after+'getting+Ugg+Boot+stuck'+in+tracks/article.do

Yep, I agree, I forgot to mention Uggs are ugly. I am not looking forward to spring/summer and seeing people walking around in shorts and Uggs in 90 degree weather!

Which is worse...Uggs or Crocs?

i've actually been in more than one pub debate about that topic--what's worse, uggs or crocs? i vote uggs, still, but only because i see them more often over here. they're both ridiculous. and ugly.

Andy has pointed out that Crocs are named as such because they are little crock pots that cook your feet in your own sweat! Gross! Andy coined this phrase in Toledo at Claire and George's anniversary party when cousin Pouncing Jackass (AKA Smiling "while camping out in your living room" Coyote) was wearing a pair! As far as Uggs, Kate Hudson is solely (a little pun!) responsible for their popularity over here because she was pictured in a pair (yuck, with shorts!) in People mag five years ago. Damn her! Anyway, Uggs and Crocs are two different ways to cook your feet in their own juices!

that's so true! today, say many an ugg boot, and many a croc--and all i thought of was really horrific, feet smelling households. pew!

I understand Ugg boots as a fashion statement...albeit a bad one...There is an Apres-Ski chic thing that has transformed to a summer fashion that makes no sense...But I just find Crocs silly. I can see if you are working in the garden, but please leave them there. I saw a dude wearing "Badger Red" Uggs with polka-dot socks and shorts one day last year...and corcs and short as summer fashion is not uncommon...but it is Wisconsin...

I have a pair of Ugg shoes, that look like a normal pair of shoes (I think) and are very handy in the snow. They have the lamb skin/wool interior. The first question people ask is about the feet sweating...I don't have a problem with them...and I am a sweater - they have been put to rest for the year...but there is not way I can wear plastic on my feet and not have the Amazon flow from the shoes.

...another shoe thing I need to add are Keen's...I have a pair, because it is the law...but they are a very niche shoe that really shouldn't be worn off the trail or recreational water-land activities. I see people wearing them way too many places. I know they are making "nicer" shoes that are casual. But people seem to be making a "tribal" statement more than anything else with them...to use the "chic" term again...they are people trying to be "Trail Chic."

well, ugg boots in snow are, i'm assuming, different than ugg boots on the streets of guildford and london--no snow here, only sun and rain. (okay, snow once every 3 years). the ugg boots here have no purpose--just worn with sweat pants and/or pajamas, and due to the wet ground, they turn disgusting shades of gray! i understand kids wearing them as kids need to fit in to whatever trend is floating around, but the uggs are out of control :)

and the crocs are useless here, what with the rain--but i'm seeing them more and more. possibly because ugg boots have sold out at most retailers in the uk.

but i still don't know why the boyfriend is charged with manslaughter. it sounds like he egged her across the tracks, but he didn't push her, didn't force her to step in front of the train. the stories i've read aren't elaborating on the alleged murderous moments before she was hit. i guess involuntary, maybe?
